A Call To Full Time Servants -Text

Matthew 10:35 -39

“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”

ABRAHAM’S CALL

In the call of Abram in Genesis 12 we identify three elements:

- Move away from country/land or his world

- Move away from relatives or separation

Move away from father’s house -

These three elements are the pattern of God’s call to servanthood, they are design to put God first place and test our faithfulness to trust God over everything else.

Country, relatives and our family roots are all the blessing of God yet God calls us to prioritize the blesser more than the blessings. God call Abraham to love Him more than everything else.

PUT GOD FIRST PLACE

In our text today, Matthew 10:35-39 Jesus is commended His followers than and the believers today of the same order of priority. Jesus Christ must come first in all things in their lives. Their relationship with Christ must come first. Their obedient to God through Jesus Christ must come first over father, mother, family and country.

Love of father or mother

To love father or mother is honor

God does not commend children to love father/mothers but to “HONOR”(promote/obey in the Lord) - Exodus 20:12 Children, are to obey their parent (caregiver or legal guardian) in the Lord. Ephesians 6:1-3

We are commended to love God with all heart, all soul and all mind. This love is a matter of principle and duty.

Love of Children

- To love children is to train up in a way they should go. Prov.22:6 Children are heritage from God, fruit of the womb a reward. This is only possible because we are first duty is to God the giver of all.
